All in all these Corvettes escorted convoys across the Atlantic or anywhere a convoy was sailing, they were hardy vessels and although tough to sail due to being small they were well thought of.

Short Sunderland

A total of 749 were built and became a rugged tough patrol aircraft used against the U boat arm.
They were expected to patrol long range areas where U boats were prevalent and they were good at this.
On board there were facilities for cooking, toilets and general home type amenities.
She was fitted with offensive and defensive weapons and the Germans referred to her as the Porcupine..
They were fitted with four Pegasus XVIII engines but later upgraded as the model became more numerous.
They were fitted with various detection units to aid combat. Leigh searchlight, various ASV mark 2 and mark 3 radar units.

She was widely used by allied military and Pembroke dock was the largest home for the Sunderland. (Wonderful aircraft).
