Moulton Village Centre Mouse Mat Watercolour Print.
Moulton Village or Multone, Muletone or Moltone has origins in Roman times. To the south of the village a Roman Villa was excavated and signs of earlier settlements at Round Spinney area have been discovered. However there are no Roman names for the village which may point to it being a small farming settlement part of a larger district.
Moulton Village was established before the Norman conquest of year 1066 and the principle was a Saxon land owner. We know that the Mill is mentioned in the Doomsday book and arable land was cultivated, borders (small holdings) and Villains (peasant farmers) indicating a well functioning agricultural community.
The Toponomy ha origins in Roman times. Moulton likely derives from old English the Mill. This Mill may have been situated by a stream which runs through Moulton Village since it was described as a small Rivulet rising in Overstone Parish and runs into the River Nene.
